Coxswain
started with my beloved bedwarmer, Ch. Windrift's Red Right 'N Blue
(known to her friends as Libby), and now includes two of her
offspring by Ch. Koblstone's Jailhouse Rock plus a granddaughter,
Annie.
Libby's only
litter has produced three American champions, including BISS Ch.
Windrift's Red Vader (winner of the 2004 KCA National!), and
Group-placing Ch. Windrift's Red Hot 'N
Blue.
A brief intro: I first
met the Keeshond breed in the early 1970s, when I helped a hobby breeder
in Washington with the grooming and showing of her dogs. My first Kees,
Misty (Seacrest Fleur-de-lis CD, a granddaughter of the then top Keeshond
in Canada, Can. Ch. Reydorp Blastoff) gave me years of love, and a start
in the exciting world of AKC conformation and obedience showing. When
Misty went to the Rainbow Bridge at the age of 13, I was not financially
in a position to keep another dog due to college expenses, and was dogless
for ten years.
Once my financial
position improved I went looking for a different breed, fearing that
another Kees would suffer by comparison with Misty. Fortunately, I
contacted Joanne Reed of
Windrift Kennels
and was invited to her home to meet her dogs. The first dog I saw there
was Badger (Ch. Windrift's Summertime Blues HOF ROMX). One look at this
gorgeous, happy fellow and I was hooked all over again! Sometime later,
one of Badger's daughters, Libby, came back to Joanne needing a new home,
through no fault of her own. Joanne gave me Libby on a co-ownership, and
has been most willing to share her knowledge of the breed with me. I'm
greatly indebted to Joanne for her help and especially for my "little grey
treasure", Libby. |
